Causes of Sciatica

Sciatica has become a common condition in people across age group. Some common causes of Sciatica are:

  • Herniated/Slip Disc

Slip disc is the most common cause of Sciatica.

The disc moves out of its position and puts pressure on the sciatic nerve passing through the spine leading to sciatica.

  • Degenerative Disc Disease

The height between the spinal discs decreases due to natural wear down over time leading to the nerve passageway becoming narrower.

This may cause the discs to pinch the sciatic nerves.

  • Spinal Stenosis

The abnormal narrowing of the spinal passageway is known as spinal stenosis.

This reduces the space available for the nerves to pass through leading to pressing/ pinching of a few nerves.

  • Spondylolisthesis

Spondylolisthesis is a condition where a vertebra slips out of its position causing it to be misaligned with the other vertebrae.

This again leads to pinching/pressure on the nerves passing through it.

If the sciatic nerve is affected, it can lead to sciatica.

Accurate diagnosis is must for a timely & complete recovery. Find the joint, muscle, nerve causing you pain
